Mukono Pipeline: CFA, August 2020

Scope of Services:

EA Piling has continued its successful partnership with Sogea Satom in constructing water infrastructure for Uganda through the Kiyoko Crossing project in Mukono. This involved the installation of four CFA piles of 600mm diameter down to 15m depth. Due to the piling locations being located along a busy road, the works were executed over the course of two nights.

Location: Mukono, Mukono District, Uganda

Completion Date: August 2020

Main Contractor: Sogea Satom

Client: National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC)

Project Description:

The Main Contractor, Sogea Satom, identified the need for piled foundations for the water pipeline crossing at Kiyoko along Jinja Road. The 1.4m diameter water pipes are supplying potable water to the city of Kampala. The pipes span approximately 20m across an existing culvert along Jinja road and therefore require piled foundations to transfer the vertical loads into the ground.

EA Piling were able to swiftly produce a technical and commercial proposal for the works. Upon award of the contract, the team mobilised to site within a week and successfully installed the CFA piles over the course of two working nights. The four 600mm CFA piles were installed to 15m depth.

Upon completing piling works, EA Piling proceeded to break down the pile tops to enable casting the pile caps. Integrity testing was then carried out on all four piles to validate the quality of installation. The results reported that none of the piles have any structural defects.

EA Piling look forward to collaborating with Sogea Satom on many more projects in the future.
